November's Task: In The Beginning

While reading my daily periodicles (blogs) this morning, I noticed Hello Miss Niki & OfficialStinaD both participated in Beauty Blogger Headquarters' November Task & I thought it looked like fun.  November's task takes you down memory lane from when you first began your blog to the present which is perfect timing since I'm coming up to my first year of offical blogging in December 8-O So without further ado, here it is!

How long have you been blogging?
I've been blogging since December 14, 2011.  Almost a whole year!

What/who inspired you to start blogging?
I mostly did it because someone--I can't remember who though :( -- suggested I should.  She said my looks were great & people would love to see them, so here I am today :)

Did you tell your family and friends about your blog? If so, what was their reaction? Are they supportive or "in the dark" about your blog?
I'm super shy, so it took me a few months to tell my family & friends & my boyfriend & even then I would've give them my link lol.  It's silly, but I didn't feel like getting picked on because of my passion & I knew that at least out in the internet world there would be people who share my passion & would accept me.  Needless to say they all chased me down & found my URL & they couldn't be more supportive.  They're now all pushing me to make a career out of my artistry.

What goals or dreams did you have for your blog when you started? Have you accomplished them?
When I started this blog I started it with the sole purpose of putting my looks out in the world & sharing them with others & building relationships with others as well & I have to say I've definitely done both.  It can really be discouraging to start out but I've met some amazing girls who's kind words kept me from pulling the plug on this who operation.

If you could give your beginner-self one tip of advice, what would it be?
Oh jeez, it would definitely have to be "Don't get frustrated & be prepared to dedicate a LOT of time if you want your blog to be successful."  The beauty blogger world is SOOO saturated with peoples' looks, reviews, videos etc. that you just have to be very, very dedicated & original.

What is your favorite and least favorite thing about being a blogger?
Definitely the most frustrating part about blogging is how insanely difficult it is to build a following.  Like I mentioned earlier this industry is so saturated you have to jump through hoops to get recognized.   I do, however LOVE my followers because so many of them are actively engaged in my blog & me in theirs.  I've gotten some amazing support and inspiration from my followers & I couldn't be happier with that.

what does your blog name mean? How did you decide on it?
Haha! Oh man the blog name.  Well it wasn't always "Smokin Colour".  In high school I started calling myself "LexiFresh" as a joke & it just stuck, so I've used it for EVERYTHING, pinterest; twitter; facebook; instagram.  So That's what the blog was called for about four months.  Around that time is when I told my boyfriend about my hobby & he said "Let me guess, it's called LexiFresh. (Insert evil laugh)"  To which I said "No!" and worked feverishly for about a week to come up with something that I felt suited me.  I started with some terrible names & then all the good combos I came with were already taken.  Finally I thought "Well, what's my style like?  I like smokey eyes, but I LOVE color too." And thus, "Smokin Colour" was born!

I hope you guys like getting to know the beginnings of my blog, I'd love to read about yours too!  Post your link below if you decide to participate too<3

  3. ahh I love the name of your blog. I couldn't agree with you more. The Internet is so saturated with beauty junkies, lol. Originality is something I look for too in a blog, makeup looks, products, etc...It's hard to stand out from the crowd but to me it's not about collecting followers and make a big name for yourself. It's about being yourself and loving what you do.
