BBHQ December (and January) Task: How Do You Photograph For Your Blog?

Hello everyone,

Today I will FINALLY be completing my entry for Beauty Blogger Head Quarter's December (and January) task.  Since The holidays made everything so cray cray in the blogging world, Krystal decided to extend the task another month.  Thank goodness she did 'cause I was kinda bummed I missed out.  So let's get to the nitty gritty shall we?

  •   What camera(s) do you use for your blog photography?

I use an Olympus VG-140 to take all my blog photos.... except for this one of course, I had to use my phone :)

  • What type of lighting do you use? Natural light, indoor light, studio lamps, etc.?
For the most part I use artificial lighting because I take most of my photos in the morning before work.  On the weekends, if I have time I try to take them in the early afternoon by a window that lets in a lot of light.  If I'm really strapped for time I just take them in my car whether it's sun, rain or snow.  I know, I'm horrible lol.

  • Do you use a lightbox (purchased or diy?)?
I don't even know what this is.  Someone save me!!! haha
  • Do you use a specific background?

I don't have a "setup" or anything, but I always take my photos in one specific area of my room because the artificial lighting doesn't affect the quality of the photos too much.
  • What does your photographing setup usually looki like?

My "photography setup" consists of my point & shoot camera & this little nook in my room.  Sometimes in front of my mirror, so I can make sure I get as close as possible to my eye or lips without cutting anything out.  That is all.

  • What is your top photographing tip for a beginner blogger?
If you're like me & can't afford a suped-up dSLR or something to that nature, learn how to work with what you have.  It took me a long time to figure out how I could get usable photos with the camera I have.  Although it's not my ideal camera for the kind of work I do, I know how to make it work to my advantage until I can afford something better.  Next word of advice; if you can afford a better camera, get it!

  • For fun: If you could upgrade your photographing equipment today, what would you buy?
Picture taken from bestbuy.com

Other than my camera I've shot with my sisters Canon dSLR & it's phenomenal.  The price is wayyyyy too steep for me though so I'm definitely gonna keep doing my research & try to find something with great quality at a price I can afford.

  2. I think your pictures turn out pretty good even with a point and shoot cam. I agree you can definitely work with what you have and still produce good images without resorting to a DSLR cam. I would say only save up for one if you really need to. I have some friends and family who own a DSLR and don't even know how or hardly use it, lol.

    1. Thank you hun. It's so true, there's no point in a high-thech camera if you don't know how it works.
